Making sense of your care options

Use a few direct questions to compare choices with your clinician and decide what fits your goals.

Begin with the decision

Ask your clinician to name the decision in plain language. Confirm whether there is more than one reasonable option, including waiting or making no change when that is medically appropriate.

Compare the same facts

For each option, ask about the expected benefit, possible harm, practical burden, cost, and what follow-up it requires.

Connect the choice to your goals

A good decision combines clinical evidence with what matters to you. Tell your clinician about the outcomes, risks, routines, and responsibilities that affect your choice.
